Jayne, a pediatric nurse with more than 10 years of patient-care
experience at several hospitals, frequently refers to herself as the “top dog”
in the department. She uses her
experience as a reason to trade off less-appealing patients with other nurses
in the department. Jayne claims that she’s
the only nurse in the department who knows how to operate several pieces of
high-tech equipment and refuses to teach other staff members how to use the
equipment. No one wants to work with
Jayne because she’s condescending, yet nearly everyone must be g Jayne for help
on a daily basis because they don’t know how to-do certain procedures she’s
always responsible for.
